Model:
It is an application for performing mathematical calculations on sound files and detecting changes in its frequency spectrum. The program uses the wavelet transform as a basic algorithm and a number of different filters to detect specific changes in the spectrum. Filters for the H1, H2 and Mel spectra are included.
How it works:
Every sound file is first converted to the Wavelet format using the scipy function scipy.wavfile.read(‘file.wav’). The scipy.wavfile.read() function creates a list of data points that can be visualized as a spectrum. The Waviest transform function of the library is used to perform the wavelet transform of the sound file.
Every n-octave band of the spectrum is converted to the Mel scale using the scipy function scipy.signal.mel. Mel scale is a scale of frequencies that gives the perception of a sound file as an equal number of frequencies per octave. For example, note C4-1 has the frequency of 3.9 Hz, but it is perceived by the human ear as having an equal number of frequencies, namely 3, for every octave. Mel scale provides an easy way to analyze the spectrum by plotting it on the Mel scale.
Once the Mel scale has been obtained for every octave, the horizontal axis of the spectrum is reordered into the Mel scale. Finally, every scipy.signal.mel.detect() function is used to detect any changes in the Mel spectrum. The result of the detect() function is a list of numbers indicating the positions where the Mel spectrum changes.
