GatFileSystem is a file system for PD/LaserWriters
from GATECH. It is based on the GATFS file system.
GatFileSystem

The file system is based on the OS Loader support and the kernel driver. The kernel driver
is capable of reading the data in the sectors and reading out the sectors
in the second (R/W) drive. Thus it is possible to access a disk even
without a firmware. GatFileSystem is basically using the existing Open Source driver.
GatFileSystem is able to be used with the original firmware only and is not
suitable for the Non-Volatile Memory disks (or any disks like that).
GatFileSystem is a very minimal file system that implements only the necessary functions
for writing on laserdisk devices.
GatFileSystem is able to write data to sectors as follows:
1. no sector erase or preformat
2. sector format of 0xE9 = R/W sector – Write / R/W sector – read
3. sector format of 0xF6 = R/W sector – Write / R/W sector – read
In the “read” mode the sectors are not formatted, but it is possible to read out the sectors.
In the “write” mode the sectors are formatted by the device manufacturer.
The first sector is always empty. The partition table is stored in the first sector. The sector
size is 2048 bytes and the sector type is 0xF8.
All the other sectors are stored as follows:
The first sector (Data sector)
The data sector size is 2048 bytes
The data sector type is 0xF8
The second sector is data sector type 0xF8
The second sector is the directory sector. It is formatted as sector type 0xFE
The third sector is data sector type 0xF8
The third sector is the data sector
The fourth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The fifth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The sixth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The seventh sector is data sector type 0xF8
The eighth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The ninth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The tenth sector is data sector type 0xF8
The eleventh sector is data sector type 0xF8
The twelfth sector is data eea19f52d2
